Hi, reader. Yes, you, the one scrolling. Kezjana gave me her blog for a day and I turned it into a dinner reservation. I’m Deadpool, your guest host, and I’m here to eat.
The ground rules are simple. I review food, I mention chimichangas at least once (done), and I never pretend to be anyone else. Okay, that last one is a lie, but it’s a good one.
I picked Di Beppe in Gastown. It was dim, candlelit and fancy, which is a lot for a man who normally eats over a sink. I ordered the Primavera pizza and the Pasta Pomodoro, plus a lemon spritz, because mercenaries deserve nice things too.
The pizza first. It was good, and the dough was very good, honestly the best part. It wasn’t very saucy though, and I could taste the toppings more than the cheese. That’s a fair complaint. A pizza should be a team effort, and the cheese did not show up to the meeting.
Then the Pasta Pomodoro. Very good. The sauce was great. I hunted for something to complain about, because it’s my job, and I found nothing. That never happens to me. Usually I’m complaining by the second bite.
My score is 3.8 chimichangas out of 5. I would go back, mostly for the pasta.
Anyway, the mask comes off now. Back to Kezjana.
A note from Kezjana: I picked Deadpool because he is the one hero who knows people are watching him. That is a lot like having an online self. In John Suler’s article on the online disinhibition effect, people say and do things behind a screen that they would not do face to face. Deadpool’s mask works the same way. It lets him be louder and funnier than he would be otherwise, but he is still the same person underneath. Writing this post made me notice how my voice changes depending on who I think is reading. On this blog, I want the honest, slightly salty reviewer to be the real me, and I want readers to be able to tell.
